THE ALBANY LAW JOURNAL will begin this month the publication of a legal romance which, we are sure, will be read with interest and profit by members of the profession. It is entitled "A Living Dead Man; or The Strange Case of Moses Scott. An Accurate and Truthful Narration of the Complications Caused by a Litigant's Return from the Lethean Shore." The author is Mr. Phil. Skillman, an attorney now residing in Olympia, the capital of the State of Washington. The case itself is a novel one, and the MS. gives the exact record, so far as the records are quoted, from the Probate, Superior and Supreme Courts of Washington State, as well as the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States. The setting or surrounding the author has aimed to make humorous, and we can assure our readers that he has succeeded admirably. Those few favored persons to whom the MS. has been submitted are unanimous in the opinion that it ought to have a permanent place in law literature. The story will be published, in serial form, in these columns by special arrangement with the author, who has copyrighted it. Mr. Skillman is a native of Chenango county., N. Y., but left there in 1856 for Minnesota, where he lived until 1882. He then went to South Dakota, and, in 1890, became a resident of the State of Washington. The Skillman family have an honorable record in New York. We are able to assure our readers that the story will prove worthy of careful perusal and permanent preservation.
